Welcome to 30 Days of Hygge, Day 8!
In the last two houses I’ve lived in, I’ve been lucky enough to have a desk near a window that overlooks some amazing bird habitat. My last house had a huge lilac bush right outside my window where chickadees loved to congregate in the winter and spring. My current house has a huge pine tree right outside, where crows, woodpeckers, chickadees, and various other birds love to hang out. This year I even had some sparrows build a nest in the eaves just above my office window.
Side note: Crows are some of my favorite birds to watch because they’re so intelligent. Two or three of them often play in the branches right outside my window, and it’s a great excuse to take a break for a few minutes to watch them.
My current property has a lot of other birds in the area not immediately next to the house. I’ve spotted cardinals, robins, red-winged blackbirds, ducks, great blue herons, hawks, blue jays, and more. When I feel like taking a longer break, I’ll take a walk around the property and check out the current inhabitants.
I highly recommend taking some time out of your day today to watch the birds. If your house or office isn’t in prime bird-watching territory, take a little side trip to your local park or other natural area and check them out. Take a camera or binoculars along for even more fun.
